Canadian designers create innovative foot-powered washing machine

Canadian design company YiREGO has created The Drumi – a time efficient foot-powered washing machine. The product doesn’t use any electricity, and is completely environmentally sustainable.

According to the company’s official website, the machine uses 80% less water and detergent than a normal washing machine cycle. It is compact and easy to transport, standing 22 inches tall.

It doesn’t use a single power source, making it ideal for camping or traveling to places without access to washing machines.

The company’s objective is clearly stated on their website: “To create ethical, eco-friendly household products that both better everyday living and provide simple solutions for your household tasks. We aim to not only provide convenience through time and energy consumption, but we also look for new ways to help reduce your carbon footprint.”

This foot-powered washing machine appears to represent their mission. It features a foot pedal that changes through a washing, rinsing, and spin-drying cycle in around 5 minutes. It can wash up to around 5lbs of clothing at a time, and can carry up to 5L of water.

Currently only available for pre-order in the U.S. and Canada at $129, when The Drumi is officially released this year, it will be retailed at $169.
