Baking soda, also known as the powder form of Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3), is an extremely useful, versatile substance that has a number of alternative uses. Thanks to its specific properties, this substance can be used to substitute many chemicals used in our everyday products. Let’s have a look!

Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is a versatile and effective cleaning agent that can be used in various ways around the home.

Shampoo. Baking soda can help to eliminate calcium buildup, making your hair softer and shinier. You can try adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to a cup of warm water, letting it dissolve, and then applying to your hair and scalp. This can be used after or instead of shampooing. For conditioning, you can mix 1 cup of conditioner with 1/2 cup of baking soda, massage into hair, and sit for 15 minutes before rinsing.

Treating acne. A mixture of baking soda and honey can help fight acne. Gently apply to desired area and let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing.

Hairbrush cleaner. Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl of warm water. Place hairbrushes and combs in bowl to remove dirt and oil.

Deodorant. Mix a pinch of baking soda with water to create a light paste. You can use this as a natural substitute to commercial deodorants which contain many chemicals. As an alternative, pat a bit of baking soda powder on underarms.

General household cleaning. This substance can also be used to help clean furniture and floors. Mixing 3 parts baking soda with one part water, you can scrub off stains from most surfaces. To remove bad odors from your carpet, you can sprinkle baking soda, then vacuum after 15 minutes.

Laundry detergent. Use baking soda paste to remove stains before washing clothes or add 1 tablespoon of baking soda powder to your usual laundry detergent.
